Estee Jackson, a sixth grade teacher, says she contracted COVID-19 upon coming into contact with asymptomatic students.

"When I was exposed to COVID, my heart stopped functioning correctly and was diagnosed with Cardiogenic Shock," Jackson writes on the campaign.

"This condition has required me to go on and off mechanical life support.

"I've been in the ICU for ten days in counting, in that short time my life has changed in indescribable ways."

Jackson has become completely dependent on others, she said.

"Everyday simple tasks, are no longer 'simple.' Without the help of the nurses, physical therapist, and occupational therapist I cannot brush my teeth, turn in bed, or even feed myself. I require full time care."

Jackson asks for help with support for her rehabilitation as it may take up to a year before she can return to the classroom.

The GoFundMe had raised more than $2,100 as of Tuesday, May 31.
